Need to drive to work while you're suspended? An LDP may help, and it requires an SR-22 on file.
If your Missouri driving privilege is suspended, revoked or denied and you aren't yet eligible for reinstatement, a Limited Driving Privilege may let you drive in pre-approved situations, such as to work. People often call it a hardship license. An LDP can't be used to drive a commercial motor vehicle.
To get an LDP, you need an SR-22 on file with the Department of Revenue. Your insurance company can file it, or you can include a copy of the form with your application. If you drop your SR-22 coverage before the LDP expires, the LDP is cancelled. We file SR-22s electronically, usually the same day the policy is in force. No car of your own? A non-owner SR-22 may fit.
Missouri law excludes several situations, including when you're already eligible for reinstatement but haven't met the requirements, a motor-vehicle felony conviction in the last five years, an unsatisfied accident judgment, or an unpaid ticket suspension. Importantly, suspensions resulting from a DWI or BAC conviction, or an administrative alcohol suspension, aren't eligible for an LDP; those drivers may be eligible for a Restricted Driving Privilege (RDP) instead. See the full list on the Missouri DOR LDP page.
If you have more than one alcohol offense or an active chemical revocation, proof of an ignition interlock device is required before an LDP is issued, and it must stay installed for the LDP's duration. A court may require one even for a single offense.
We write the policy and file the SR-22 so it's on record when your application is reviewed, and we help you keep it active for the life of the LDP. The Department of Revenue or the court decides eligibility.
